Helmimax is a broad-spectrum drug that is used for dogs in the fight against helminths of various types. According to the manufacturer - the Russian company Api-San, this is an effective and innovative medicine that can protect the animal from round and tapeworms.
Dosage form of anthelmintic - tablets. So that owners of different dogs can effectively and safely use the drug for representatives of different breeds and weights, the manufacturer produces it in several versions:
- Helmimax-4 is designed for puppies, as well as representatives of small breeds;

The only difference is the different concentration of active components. Each option is designed taking into account the characteristics of animals of a certain weight category. Thanks to this, it was possible to combine a good therapeutic effect and safety.
White round tablets have two grooves. They are arranged perpendicularly and make it possible to divide the tablet into 4 equal parts, therefore it is convenient to dose the drug even for the smallest pets. On the other hand, the company logo is applied, which provides protection against fakes.
You can store the medicine at room temperature, but not above + 25˚C. The main thing is to place the drug away from direct sunlight.

Composition and action
Helmimax destroys 13 types of helminths that parasitize in the digestive system, heart, liver, spleen, and muscle tissue. The spectrum of action and effectiveness is due to the fact that the composition of the medication contains 2 active components:
- Praziquantel. Due to the increased permeability of cell membranes, muscle contraction occurs, which serves as a violation of the motor function of parasites and leads to their death. The substance is capable of exerting effects on tapeworms, regardless of the stage of development. Praziquantel through the intestines penetrates the blood and spreads throughout the body. In just a couple of hours, its concentration reaches its maximum value.
- Moxidectin. It has a completely different principle of action. It acts on the glutamate-chlorine tubules, due to which the entire nervous system of the parasites fails. Paralysis occurs due to the violation of the transmission of nerve impulses. Like praziquantel, moxidectin is rapidly absorbed. Together with the bloodstream, it spreads throughout the body.
An anthelmintic agent is considered a safe substance for animals, if not exceed the recommended doses. Helmimax does not have a toxic effect, but if the pet has diseases of the internal organs, it is better to consult a veterinarian before use.
The composition of the drug also includes various auxiliary components. Among them is Chicken flavor, which gives tablets a pleasant aroma. The manufacturer sought to make the drug attractive for dogs, but in practice, some pets categorically refuse to chew tablets voluntarily.
When and how is it applied
If you follow the instructions for use, you need to give Helmimax to dogs when infected with round or tapeworms. Due to the wide spectrum of action, the drug can also be used to treat mixed helminthic invasions. The drug is successfully used to get rid of parasites, regardless of the degree of infection.
Also, the medicine is well suited for planned anthelmintic. For reliable protection of the animal from internal parasites, they need to be carried out quarterly. The drug can be used for deworming, which is mandatory before vaccination or mating.
Note! The drug is also used to prevent dirofilariasis.
You need to give the drug in the morning, before feeding. If the dog refuses to voluntarily eat the pills, they can be mixed in the crumbled form with food or put into the mouth by force. So that the pet does not spit out the medicine, it must be laid on the root of the tongue. Then, the animal should be stroked around the neck to cause a swallowing reflex, while the head of the animal must be kept raised.
When calculating the dosage, the concentration of active components and the weight of the animal must be taken into account. If you use an anthelmintic for puppies and small breeds (Helmimax-4), the dose is calculated as follows:
- 0.5-1 kg - a quarter of the tablet;
- 1-2 kg - half a tablet;
- 2-4 kg - 1 pc.;
- 4-6 kg - 1.5 pcs.;
- 6-8 kg - 2 pcs.
When using Helmimax-10, the following dosages must be adhered to:
- 5-10 kg - 1 pc.;
- 10-15 kg - 1.5 pcs.;
- 15-20 kg - 2 pcs.
If you use Helmimax-20, designed for large pets, when calculating the number of tablets, the following should be considered:
- 10-20 kg - 1 pc.;
- 20-30 kg - 1.5 pcs.;
- 30-40 kg - 2 pcs.;
- 40-50 kg - 2.5 pcs.;
- 50-60 kg - 3 pcs.;
- 60-70 kg - 3.5 pcs.;
- 70-80 kg - 4 pcs.
Usually, one technique is enough to destroy the worms or to prevent their appearance. With severe infection, it is recommended to repeat the use of the drug after 2 weeks.
Note! It is not necessary to follow a special diet or limit the diet of an animal. Nutrition does not affect the absorption of active components, and their distribution throughout the body.
After taking the medicine, the dog does not need to rinse the intestines or give laxatives. The components of the medication destroy the parasites and contribute to their emergence in a natural way. The need to take additional measures can arise only in case of severe invasion. Worm decomposition products can be toxic to the body of the pet. This can cause intoxication. In this case, it is better to consult a veterinarian.
Contraindications and side effects
Refuse to use the drug in such situations:
- if intolerance to the components has been previously noticed;
- with severe kidney disease;
- with serious violations of the liver;
- if the weight of the animal has not reached 0.5 kg;
- before reaching 3 weeks of age.
It is not recommended to use an anthelmintic for weakened animals, pets with infectious diseases and exhaustion. The toxicity of the drug in this case is greatly increased, which can cause side effects. In such situations, you first need to improve the health status of the dog, conduct a comprehensive treatment, and then conduct deworming.
Note! The instructions indicate that Helmimax for pregnant and lactating dogs can be used under the supervision of a doctor. It is forbidden to give medicine 2 weeks before and 14 days after birth.
If the recommended doses are observed, the medicine is well tolerated by dogs. The exception is representatives of the Bobtail, Sheila, Collie breeds. They often have an increased sensitivity to Helmimax components.
In case of an overdose, the following symptoms may occur:
- vomiting, diarrhea and other digestive system disorders;
- apathy and depression;

- increased salivation.
To accelerate the elimination of toxic substances from the body and reduce their negative effects, the dog is given enterosorbents (activated charcoal, Enterosgel, etc.). In addition, symptomatic therapy can be used to improve the well-being of the pet and eliminate unpleasant signs of an overdose.
Ksenia, the owner of the puppy of the cur:
"It just so happened that instead of a thoroughbred puppy, they sold me an ordinary cur, but I still loved it very much. The veterinarian advised me to have an anthelmintic. We used Helmimax on his recommendation. She ate half the tablet mixed with chicken breast without problems. After 3-4 hours from worms started to climb. Huge worms. Worms came out for 4 days. The dog felt unwell, but ate appetite. After 2 weeks, the procedure was repeated. There were almost no worms, so the drug works fine. "
Lyudmila, the owner of the toy terrier:
"I used Helmimax-4 for the first time to treat helminthic infestation in a dog. Karina devoured the pill directly from her hand, so I didn’t have to use any tricks. The test results showed that we were able to get rid of parasites. Now we periodically use it for prevention."
Michael, a veterinarian with 12 years of experience:
"Helmimax is a good domestic drug. Its main advantage is that it provides protection against the most dangerous heartworms. It is available in several versions, so you can easily choose the right dosage. The price is not the lowest, but you always have to pay for effectiveness."
Victoria, a veterinarian with 5 years of experience:
“I’ll say right away that I don’t have much experience using a new drug from a domestic manufacturer. I can only judge from my own experience. It’s a good anthelmintic. It effectively destroys worms. It’s suitable for prevention. But you need to calculate the dose of Helmimax carefully, containing highly toxic components.”
