Origin history

The author of the breed Petersburg Orchid is a dog handler, owner of the cattery "With Lake Dolgoe" Nasibova Nina Petrovna. In 1997, she began work on the creation of a completely new decorative breed that could take its rightful place among domestic dogs. Under the leadership of Nasibova, a group of like-minded people, consisting of five breeders, gathered.

What kind of breeds participated in the cultivation of orchids, the author is still silent. When asked about the name, he answers that it came to mind quite suddenly and seemed very suitable. Not big dogs born in cold St. Petersburg really resemble an elegant, delicate flower.

It took 3 years and two generations to get the desired type of dog, from which the best were chosen. It was not difficult to fix the desired qualities. Previously, Nasibova was engaged in the breeding of the Russian toy terrier, she has already gained experience in selecting breeding pairs.

Patents for a selection achievement grant Nina Petrovna the right to control the breeding of dogs of the St. Petersburg orchid and Nevskaya orchid breeds for 30 years, as well as transfer rights regarding breeding and sale to other persons. The breed is still very young, is at the stage of breeding. St. Petersburg orchids have not yet received recognition in the RKF.

The Petersburg orchid has a cheerful, cheerful character, these dogs are cute, playful and loving. They are very active on the street, houses are usually more balanced and calm. They generally get along well with other pets. There is absolutely no aggression or cowardice in the character of the Petersburg orchid. Even unfamiliar dogs often show interest and friendliness. Many are very vigilant, pick up the slightest rustle behind the door and inform the owner about it with a clear voice. They treat children very well, they like to play with them, but it is better to protect a fragile orchid from the “care” of very young children.

Maintenance and care

Dogs breed Petersburg orchid absolutely unpretentious. Of course, this is not a street dog and can only be kept in an apartment or in a house. They will take up quite a bit of space, and if the hair is combed regularly, the abundance of wool will be observed only during seasonal molting. Orchids are neat, very clean, smart and obedient, rarely bullies. It is not necessary to take to the streets regularly. Miniature orchids easily learn to go to the cradle and themselves are not enthusiastic about the idea of walking in bad weather.

Beautiful shiny orchid coat is the result of a balanced diet, regular care and the right cosmetics. In general, caring for an orchid is easy. Combing the dog is enough 2 times a week. Sheared once every 1-2 months. For bathing, it is very important to choose the right shampoo and rinse conditioner that prevents tangling.

Like any other dog, an orchid needs to regularly wipe its eyes, removing accumulated secret from the corners, and also clean its ears as necessary, about once a week. It is very good if you can teach a dog to brush his teeth and perform this procedure several times a month or even daily.

Orchid haircut

Breeders have developed a specific haircut that emphasizes the dignity of the breed and allows you to create a characteristic original appearance. The wool on the neck and body is removed as when cutting an American cocker. Along the back and on the chest, it is cut to the level of the shoulder joint. A bang, a beard and a mustache remain on the head. Long hair covers ears. On the forelimbs it is removed to the metacarpal joints, and on the hind limbs 1/5 of the hocks, then it is neatly aligned. The hair between fingers and pads is carefully cut. The tail is fully trimmed.

Clothing for orchids

In order to prevent hypothermia of a beloved pet, it must be protected from rain, wind, snow and cold, choosing clothes according to the weather. The already cute dogs in clothes look even more cute and attractive. Choose clothes should be in size. It should not hamper the movement of the dog or be too spacious. You can focus on clothes for other miniature breeds. In addition to street dresses, pet shops offer a wide selection of clothes for home and holidays.

The best option for the St. Petersburg orchid will be the selection of high-quality dry food from the series for miniature breeds. The amount of feed is calculated by the weight of the dog. It is not necessary to supplement it with natural products, but you can give biscuits, hard cheese and boiled lean meat as a treat for the dog. Petersburg orchid can also pick up wet food, only mixing two types is not recommended.

Health and Life Expectancy

It is too early to talk about some characteristic pedigree diseases. Petersburg orchid has just begun its development. In general, dogs are quite strong, but have some problems. Like other miniature breeds, they have problems with their teeth. At a young age, dogs are prone to fractures. In adults, they have stronger bone and paws less often. Dogs are sensitive to temperature extremes. In the cold season they can catch a cold and get sick. Some dogs have sensitive digestion. The average life expectancy is 13-14 years.

Breeding Features

Preserving pedigree characteristics and avoiding degeneration is possible only by following strict rejection and careful selection of pairs, as well as rigorous analysis of the resulting offspring. Non-specialists in this field who do not know all the intricacies of breeding work should not engage in amateur performances. And if you breed dogs, then only under the guidance of experienced breeders. Any mating of St. Petersburg orchids is registered in the club, couples are selected there, based on the characteristics of each individual dog.

The choice of puppy and the price of the breed of dogs Petersburg orchid

Choosing a family member for the next 15 years is not in a hurry. First you need to decide for what purpose the dog is acquired, whether it will be a companion only on the couch or is it planned to participate in exhibitions and breeding. If the family has small children, it is not recommended to take very small dogs. They often become victims of child carelessness.

Future owners should understand that the breed bred by Nirova is called the St. Petersburg orchid variety - the Neva orchid. That is exactly what is written in the patent, which the author of the breed received. But on the market there are also dogs called Nevsky Fleur (Fleur). At the moment, the appearance between the dogs is almost the difference. Some scammers breed orchids, following their own rules, without the permission of the author, and then, using the ignorance of the buyers, sell purebred dogs under beautiful names, for example, Moscow orchid.

When buying a puppy in the kennel, the owner of a small Petersburg orchid receives a whole package of documents, which includes a puppy card with a logo, a seal of the club and the signature of the author of the breed, a sales contract, a veterinary passport with vaccination marks. All dogs on the inside of the thigh have a mark that begins with the letter T.

On the official site of the club of the breed Petersburg and Nevsky Orchid, you can find a list of breeders and nurseries that have the right to breed and sell puppies.

Dogs stand in different ways. The price of an orchid puppy "for the soul" is an average of 25,000 rubles. Dogs for breeding and show career cost from 30 000 rubles. There is no clear limit in the price range, but usually the amount does not exceed 60,000 rubles.
